Introduction to Motion Library in Rokoko Studio

Introduction to Rokoko teams and purchasing Motion Library assets

Browse, Search, Sort and Filter Assets

To browse the entire collection of motion capture assets, simply open up the Motion Library view and start browsing.

All capture assets can easily be previewed from their individual thumbnail by simple hovering it!

To get a closer look at the asset simply double click it. In this full preview, you get full control to inspect the asset.

Use the live search bar to search for any assets matching your search text. The title, publisher, categories and subcategories of all clips are automatically taken into consideration when you type.

You can use the search bar from anywhere to instantly return to the main view and search for cool new assets.

Assets can be sorted both ascending or descending by their creation date, title or price.

You can filter assets to only shows clips of a certain gender and even show only clips that are designed to be loopable!

Assets can also be filtered on tagged categories or subcategories.

Categories Page

The Categories page provides you with an alternative way of selecting categories to filter assets on.

Publishers page

Looking for assets from a specific publisher? Go to the Publishers page! Here you can select any publisher to narrow your view to only their unique assets.

Teams Library page

Once assets have been purchased they will automatically be added to your teams library. In here you can view, inspect and import all of your owned assets!

Importing Assets

You can import a single asset you own directly into any of your existing projects from the thumbnail.

Or from the full preview.

Select multiple clips to automatically import them all at once to a selected project. Note that this can, of course, be done both from the main search view and from within your team library.

If one or more of the selected assets are not owned, you can quickly purchase them while importing.

NOTE: When buying an asset from the Motion Library, you download it as an .FBX file containing only the movement on the skeleton. This means that no mesh or characters are included. Some assets come with finger animation as well, which will be shown in the preview and on the tag info in the plugin.

NOTE: Rokoko Studio does not support .FBX files yet. The button "Open import Folder" lets you quickly browse your newly imported files in your local file system.

Thumbnail Preview

The animation clip preview thumbnail lets you quickly preview an animation while hovering over it with your mouse.

The thumbnail shows you the title of the clip, the publisher and the price of the clip!

Introduction to main features

SearchSearch is the primary way to find assets in the Motion Library. Simply go to the search bar located in the center top-header to start browsing assets.

FiltersTo further speed up the process, you can also filter your search results with the following options:

You can sort the asset by name (from A-Z), how recently it was added, and price (from low to high).

You can filter the assets based on categories, gender, and if the assets should be loopable or not.

Categories Besides searching you can also browse the library via selecting a high-level category and you can find the category page in the header. Categories give you a good overview of the high-level categories of motion assets that can be found in the library.

Publishers - If you like the style or selection of a certain publisher, you can also browse assets based on the publishers on the platform.

Tile view - Tile view is the main and default view in Motion Library. It gives you an overview of the 9 most relevant assets based on your search input and/or filter settings. You can always go back to the main tile view by clicking the  "ML" icon in the top left corner.

When hovering over a tile, the animation will automatically start playing and you can orbit around the character by hitting "left-click + mouse move". By double-clicking you open the animation and go into full "Preview Mode".

Preview view - In Preview Mode, you get a "full view" of a specific animation with a title, publisher name, and link to the publisher’s full profile. You can also see the price and more details about the animation.

You’ll have a range of preview options, including changing playback speed, viewing asset details, and previewing  the motion on different character assets at runtime speed.

Preview characters When you browse the Motion Library, you see all the animations being played on Rokoko’s default character rig - "Newton". However, you can also select another preview character - "Bruno". Keep an eye out for more preview  characters of different styles and expressions coming soon!

Preview Cart - When you’re ready, add your selections directly to your cart or create a playlist in your Motion Library, and go through the quick purchase flow before downloading the assets. All of the assets you purchase will be stored in your Rokoko account. You can find them under ‘Order Overview’ and download them as FBX files whenever you need them for a project. You will also automatically share the assets you’ve purchased with your team you are signed in as.

My Library / Team library - When clicking "Team Library" or "My Library" you will see an overview of all the assets you and your teams purchased. You can download them to your local computer and import them to your specific Maya scene. Note that your purchased assets belong to the team you are logged in to.

Shortcuts and navigations - In Tile View, the outline of the tile helps you get a quick indication of the status of the asset:

  • No outline: Not purchased.
  • Blue outline: In the shopping cart.
  • Green outline: Purchased and ready to download.
  • Green dotted outline: Downloaded and ready to import.

In tile view you have the following navigation options:

  • Hover the tile to get it to play the animation.
  • "Left-click and move mouse" on tile view to orbit.
  • Add to cart bu clicking basket icon.
  • In preview view you have the following navigation options:
  • "Escape-key" to close the view.
  • "Space-key" to play/pause recording.
  • "Left-key/right-key" to scrub the playhead back and forward.

Download and import assets

You can use the motion assets you buy through the Motion Library plugin just like you use any other animation asset in a project. They are made to support Maya’s native HIK retargeting workflows out-of-the-box.
Check out the video below for more on HIK character and custom character setup.

Note!:When buying an asset from the Motion Library, you download it as an FBX file containing only the movement on the skeleton. This means that no mesh or characters are included. Some assets come with finger animation as well, which will be shown in the preview and on the tag info in the plugin. ‌

The thumbnail has a border highlighting the current state of the clip. A blue border means that it has been added to the cart, a green border means that it owned and a white border means that you have selected it!

Motion assets definition

All assets you purchase, download and import via the Motion Library comes in FBX format and the skeleton / character structure follows the Autodesk HIK convention. See this documentation from Autodesk.

Updating the plugin

You will be automatically notified when there is a new version available of the motion library via this pop-up in the top header.

Purchasing assets

Any clip can be purchased while inspecting it in the full preview scene. Simply add it to your cart and complete the order from your cart.

The cart is team-based, meaning you can add all the assets your heart desire and let someone else from your team worry about completing the checkout.

Please note that a shopping cart can only hold a maximum of 30 assets a time. If more are added without checking out, they will be removed.
