A detailed overview of how to assemble and connect your Rokoko Headcam for the first time.
Assembling the Headcam
1. When unboxing your Headcam for the first time, you will see that there is a front and a back part that need to be assembled. To begin, pull the top strap that goes from the back part of the Headcam through the loop on the front part and secure it in place with the velcro strap. Then click the back piece into place with the front piece (as below).
2. Find the right size of the included side padding for you, and attach it to the insides of the Headcam.
3. Place the Headcam on your head, and adjust the velcro strap that runs along the top of your head.
4. And finally, adjust the tightening mechanism at the back of the Headcam until it is comfortably in place.
Using the Headcam with your Smartsuit Pro II
1. Included in the Headcam box is a small velcro pad. This is intended to be stuck to the side of your Headcam.
2. You can then detach the head sensor of the Smartsuit Pro II from its headband, and instead attach it to the velcro pad that you've just stuck to the side of your Headcam.
Capturing
It's important to ensure that your Headcam is placed in a position where it can easily capture your entire face. Be sure to angle the Headcam horizontally so that it points directly at the tip of your nose (as below).
Please be sure that your face is in focus. If not, carefully rotate the camera lens until it is.
It is also possible to control the movement of the camera using controls within the Face Capture app for Android. This can be enabled via the app settings.
Lighting
The Headcam features dimmable LEDs for fill light. Three different light intensities can be toggled by tapping on the rear side of the camera. If recording in an environment with poor lighting, brighter LEDs are recommended. We would also advise staying away from light sources that could cause significant backlighting (e.g standing with a window behind you).
Download the Face Capture app
Using your Android device, go to the Google Play store and download the Rokoko Face Capture app for Android.
Connecting to Rokoko Studio
Once the Headcam is securely in place, and you have downloaded the Face Capture app for Android, connect your phone to the Headcam via USB. You will need to ensure that both the phone, and the PC you are using are running on the same WiFi network. Then open the app on your phone, and you will automatically see a prompt to pair the Face Capture app in Rokoko Studio.
Once the connection between the Face Capture app and Rokoko Studio has been established, a live facial input device will show up in scenes in Rokoko Studio, showing your captured facial animation from the Headcam.
You can then pair it to an Actor, and either record or livestream the facial data.
Important
