Most standard WiFi routers that are compatible with either 2.4GHz or 5GHz should generally work with the Smartgloves. However, be aware that some 2.4GHz routers have shown connectivity issues and will only be stable on 5GHz connections. We are currently working on a software update to solve this issue as more reports about different routers come in.
Please note that the Smartgloves can only be assigned an IPv4 IP address, for example, 172.168.1.245. The Smartgloves do not currently support IPv6 IP addresses, for example, 2001:0db8:85a3:0000:0000:8a2e:0370:7334.
Before buying a new router
When setting up your Rokoko motion capture products for the first time, try your existing router first, as it may be sufficient for your needs. If not, consider the following options (or similarly specced options that you may find on your own):
- If you are also using the Virtual Production Add-on (HTC tracker / Lighthouse Base Station integration) and forwarding the data to a plugin (Unity or Unreal), you may want to consider routers suggested in points 2 and above, depending on how many Smartgloves you will connect.
- If setting up at a conference, university, or business hub / large office center with a lot of WiFi traffic, please consider a router from points 3 or 4.
- If you need a big range (25m or more) or are using the Smartgloves in an environment with many walls and large objects potentially weakening the signal, please consider routers from points 2 and above, depending on how many Smartgloves you will connect.
- For enterprise or university users, please also consider a mesh network.→ Feel free to email us at support@rokoko.com if you need further advice.
