Managing Multi-Device Scenes (Maximum Limits)

Who is this article relevant to?

This article is for anyone who wants to know more about how to manage multiple Rokoko devices in one scene in Rokoko Studio.

What hardware is this relevant for?

Smartsuit Pro II, Smartgloves

Introduction

You have received your order that includes multiple Smartsuit Pro II and Smartglove pairs. Next, you want to use them all at the same time in a single scene in Rokoko Studio.

In this article we will go through:

  • How to set up all the Smartsuit Pro II and Smartgloves (if you are not using a Glove-ready Smartsuit Pro).
  • How to optimize your setup for optimal performance.
  • What are the known limitations of multi-device scenes.

Setting up all your Rokoko devices

In order to use your Rokoko devices, first you need to set up each device's wifi settings in Rokoko Studio. It does not matter if you have one or multiple devices - all devices need to be set up separately.

For each Smartsuit Pro II device (and thus for each Smartglove pair), an Actor Profile is needed. So, if you are using 2 Smartsuit Pro II devices and pairs of Smartgloves, you will need to create 2 Actor Profiles. More on how to create and manage your Actor Profiles can be found here.

Setting up your Smartsuit Pro:

A detailed guide on how to set up your Smartsuit Pro device can be found here. After you have finished setting up each Smartsuit Pro's wifi settings, you can connect each of them to a fully charged 3A/5V powerbank.

Important!

If you are using a Glove-ready Smartsuit Pro II, you do not need to set up your Smartgloves' wifi settings separately. After setting up your Smartsuit Pro II wifi settings:

  1. Unplug the powerbank from the Smartsuit Pro II.
  2. Make sure the Smartgloves have the latest firmware. Connect one at a time to the computer via the USB C to A cable provided and update the firmware in Rokoko Studio if prompted.
  3. Connect each Smartglove from the same pair to one Smartsuit Pro II using the USB C cables coming out of the Smartsuit Pro II wrist sensors.
  4. Connect a fully charged 3A/5V powerbank to the Smartsuit Pro II.

Setting up your Smartgloves:

If you do not use a Glove-ready Smartsuit Pro II, you will need to set up each Smartglove's wifi settings separately. A detailed guide on how to set up your Smartgloves wifi settings can be found here, but essentially the process is exactly the same.

After you have finished setting up each Smartglove's wifi settings, you can connect them to a fully charged powerbank with two 2A/5V USB-A ports (one for each Smartglove) or one 2A/5V powerbank for each Smartglove.

Calibrate all your Rokoko devices

After you have set up and paired your Rokoko devices to your Actor profiles in your scene, we will need to calibrate them. In order to calibrate every Rokoko device at once press the Left ctrl + Left SHIFT + B at the same time.

Now you are ready to record!

Optimize your multi-device setup

In order to get the best out of your multi-device setup, you will need the following:

  • A dedicated offline router.
  • An ethernet connection between the computer and the dedicated router.
  • A recording space with as low magnetic interference as possible.

Dedicated router

A list of recommended dedicated routers can be found here. A dedicated offline router will provide better reliability than using your own internet router. This will alllow for:

  1. Lower network congestion and increased device performance - Only your Rokoko devices and computer will be connected to it.
  2. Easier router troubleshooting - E.g. If a factory reset on the router is needed, only the Rokoko devices will be afftected.
  3. Portability - You can take the router with you if you need to change recording spaces.

When using a dedicated offline router, it is strongly recommended that it is connected to your computer via ethernet. This allows for better data transmission between the computer and the router. If you want to use your offline dedicated router alongside your internet router, please check here on how to use them together.

Recording space

No matter the number of Rokoko devices you are using, your recording space should have as low magnetic interference as possible. In order to evaluate your recording space, please check our guide on magnetic interference here.

Known limitations

Currently, Rokoko Studio can handle up to 2 or 3 Smartsuit Pro II devices and pairs of Smartgloves at the same time. The number can go higher or lower depending on the

  • The network setup.
  • The recording environment.
  • The amount of data recorded and passed to Rokoko Studio.
  • The duration of the recording session.
